Heart of Darkness, a novella by Jospeh Conrad, is about the horrors of colonialism masked underneath the guise of exploration and advancement. These dark motives hidden underneath glossy, noble exterior was the principal source of inspiration for the design of the book. I chose to do a regal, clean type on the exterior with heart-shaped di-cut that reveals both the literal and metaphorical “Heart of Darkness”.
